
MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team fell 2-3 (25-16, 25-22, 23-25, 14-25, 13-15) to visiting Southern Wesleyan University Friday in Southern States Athletic Conference action.
Mobile (13-6, 2-3) hosts Emmanuel College Saturday at 1 pm.
Kiara Gay led the Lady Rams with 22 kills and 15 digs, while Bailey Nations hit .455 and produced 12 kills. Reagin Boggs finished with 45 assists, while Courtney Fenwick, 13, and Nicole Armstrong, 12, added double-digit digs.
The Lady Rams out hit the Lady Warriors .299 to .199, but served up only two acces and had 11 service errors.
Mobile jumped ahead 7-1 in the opening set, and after SWU closed to within 16-14, the Lady Rams closed it out, taking 9 of the final 11 points, with kills from Gay and Sara Van Wert clinching it.
Set No. 2 saw Mobile lead from beginning to end. SWU closed within 22-21, but a pair of Gay kills and a Warrior error gave Mobile a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set was back-and-forth, with Mobile holding a late 22-20 lead on a kill from Nations. Southern Wesleyan then took three-straight, two in the service game, and five of the final six points to stay alive.
In the fourth set, Southern Wesleyan used an early 4-0 run to build a 6-2 lead, and then used a late 6-0 surge to take command at 18-9.
Mobile bounced back to build a 9-5 lead in the final set on a kill from Nations, but three-straight errors brought SWU within 9-8. Up 12-10, the Lady Rams then saw the Lady Warriors take the next four points, all on kills, before Danielle York's 11th kill of the match finished it off in the Warriors' favor.
