No. 9 Belhaven Takes Two From No. 24 Mobile

 

JACKSON, Miss-- The 25th-ranked University of Mobile softball team dropped a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at 9th-ranked Belhaven University Tuesday, dropping the opener 1-0 and falling 4-2 in the finale.
 
In the opener, the Lady Blazers got a 2-out run in the 1st on Tiffany Ansley's RBI-single and made that stand up as Sarah Burns limited the Mobile bats to two hits in 7 shutout innings. She fanned 6 and walked 3.
Kamaron Strickland took the loss despite allowing only 1 run on 6 hits in 6 innings of work. Christina Jaques finished 3-3 for the Lady Blazers.
 
The Lady Rams took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th in the finale, but Belhaven erupted for four runs to grab the win. Rebecca Rousseau got the win after allowing 0 earned runs on 7 hits in 6 innings of work, while striking out 7.
 
Victoria Buie took the loss after giving up 3 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings of work for Mobile. Kirstyn Joiner finished 2-4 with 1 RBI for Mobile, while Britney Webb (3-3) and Jessica Eggold (2-3) went 5-6 at the top of the Belhaven order to set up the offense.
 
Joiner singled home one in the top of the 1st to put Mobile up 1-0 and then the Lady Rams went up 2-0 in the 4th on a Belhaven error.
 
In the 6th, the Lady Blazers started the inning with six-straight hits, with Tiffany Ansley producing a 2-run single to tie it up and Rian O'Bannon driving home the game-winner.
 
Mobile (25-12) hosts Columbia College Friday at 2:30 pm for a doubleheader, while Belhaven improves to 33-3 on the season.
