MOBILE, Ala--The 23rd-ranked University of Mobile men's soccer team cruised to a 6-1 win over visiting Faulkner University in Southern States Athletic Conference action Saturday.
Mobile (8-3-1, 4-2) will visit Emmanuel Oct. 11 at 6 pm CST.
The Rams only finished with a 17-13 edge in shots, but had a 10-5 edge in shots on frame, and they wasted little time in setting the tempo.
The first score came just 1:45 into the game, when Gaetan Massiah volleyed home a cross from Gunnar Steindorsson from point-blank range. Then, in the 9th minute, Alvaro Pichardo headed home another Steindorsson cross to make it 2-0.
In the 16th minute, Naissim Ayadi received a feed from Michael Finamore and banged home a rocket from distance. Still not statisfied with three scores in the opening half, Stephen Okai knocked home a penalty kick.
The Eagles got their lone tally with seconds remaining in the period, and at halftime, the score sat at 4-1 in Mobile's favor.
The first goal of the final period came thanks to some nice ball movement, as Massiah and Ayadi received assists on Pichardo's second goal of the game. The capper came with three minutes remaining, as Sam Blackburn received a long ball from goalkeeper Xavier Audergon, worked into the box and knocked it home.
