Schedule Announced For Saturday's Soccer & Basketball Games


MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile has announced game times for Saturday's men's and women's soccer SSAC Tournament games, and altered the times of Saturday's season-opening basketball games.

Women's soccer will host Truett-McConnell at 1 pm, followed by the men hosting Lee University at 3 pm. Women's basketball will host Fisk University at 5 pm, followed by men's basketball battling Fisk at 7 pm.

The 4th-ranked women's soccer team is the 2nd seed in the SSAC after compiling a 14-3-1 overall record and 10-1 conference mark. The Lady Rams have been runner-ups at the tournament each of the past two years. Truett enters with a 8-9 overall mark and a 4-7 conference record. After scoring four goals against the Badgers, Christy Lachappelle leads the team with 16 goals, 9 assists and 41 points. She has scored 6 game-winning goals.

Men's soccer boasts a 13-3-1 overall record and a 9-2 conference mark after winning the SSAC Regular Season Championship. Lee enters at 9-7-1 and 5-6. The Rams have won three conference titles in three years. Gaetan Massiah leads Mobile with 12 goals, 10 assists and 34 points, while Alvaro Pichardo has 12 goals and 3 assists.

Women's basketball enters the season with Billy Evans taking over the helm after leading Belhaven University to back-to-back trips to the NAIA Women's Basketball National Championships. The Lady Rams have eight returning players that saw action last year. Briana Edwards (9.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg), Courtney Bayliss (7.3 ppg, 3.2 rpg) and Lauren Bethly (4.8 ppg, 2.1 rpg) return after earning SSAC All-Freshman honors last season.

The UMobile men's basketball team enters with a largely new roster, with only three players that have seen significant playing time returning. Marcus Polnett returns after averaging 5.7 points and leading the team with 97 assists in 30 games last season, while Cody Scott earned SSAC All-Freshman honors with 4.5 points and 2.5 boards per game.
