No. 2 Lady Rams Earn Numerous SSAC Awards


MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The 2nd-ranked University of Mobile women's soccer team earned numerous year-end awards, as announced by the Southern States Athletics Conference Wednesday evening.

Bekah Counce, Christy Lachappelle and Olivia Maddox earned 1st-Team All-Conference honors, while Jesslyn Fagundes, Melissa Maddox, Gillian McMahon and Rebekah Spalding earned 2nd-Team All-Conference honors.

Saskia Adriance and Katie Compton were named to the All-Freshman Team, while Olivia Maddox was the team's Musco Lighting Champion of Character honoree.

Lachappelle has 18 goals, 9 assists, 45 points and 7 game-winning goals on the season, leading the team in each category. Each number is also better than the player chosen as SSAC Player of the Year, Leah Fortune of Lee. She has four multi-goal games on the season and two multi-assist contests. Olivia Maddox patrols the midfield for the team and has tallied a pair of goals, including a game-winner.

Counce, Melissa Maddox and Spalding helped anchor a defense that pitched nine shutouts on the season. Counce added 1 goal and 1 assist, while Spalding has 2 goals and 1 assist and Maddox has 2 assists. McMahon has seen action in 17 games as the team's goalkeeper, boasting a 13-3-1 record, 5 shutouts and only 12 goals allowed.

Fagundes, Adriance and Compton each impacted the team's offense. Fagundes has 9 goals and 4 assists with 3 game-winners, Adriance has 3 goals and 2 assists and Compton has 5 goals and 1 assist.

The 2nd-ranked Lady Rams battle Faulkner Thursday at 5:30 pm in Montgomery, Ala., in the SSAC Semifinals.
