Rams Hold Off PCC And Win 59-50


MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team defeated visiting Pensacola Christian College 59-50 in non-conference action Thursday evening.

Mobile (2-0) visits Nicholls State Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 pm for an exhibition contest.

Chris Richardson led the Rams with 23 points, while Kwame Beard added 11 points and Kevin Calloway finished with 11 points and 11 boards. Richardson has now gone for 20+ in both games of the season to start his UMobile career.

Mike Goetsch was the Eagles' lone double-digit scorer with 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

Mobile forced 25 turnovers and hit 21-of-27 from the charity stripe compared to an 8-of-10 effort from the free throw line for the Eagles. Neither team shot well, with PCC shooting 36% overall and 29% overall in the opening half, and Mobile shooting 32% overall and 26% in the final half.

The Rams looked like they would blow the Eagles out early, starting the game on a 12-0 run before PCC finally got on the board after 7:31 had ticked off the clock on a pair of Goetsch free throws. It was 16-2 Mobile before PCC hit its first field goal, a 3-pointer with 10:34 remaining to pull within 16-5. But, the Eagles scored the next eight points to pull within three before Mobile went into the break with a 27-20 lead.

The Rams held a 36-30 lead in the final period, before PCC answered with a 10-4 run to tie it up at 40-40 with 12:16 to play. It was the first tie since 0-0. PCC then grabbed the lead on a 3-ball at 43-42 with 10:19 to play, and held it until the 5:54 mark. Trailing 48-44 with 7:23 to go, the Rams went on a 15-0 run to grab an 11-point lead with 1:39 to play. Mobile went 10-of-12 from the charity stripe during that run.
