MOBILE, Ala-- Poor shooting doomed the University of Mobile women's basketball team to a 59-52 loss to visiting Brenau Saturday afternoon at Pharr Gymnasium.
Mobile (3-3, 1-1) visits Birmingham Southern Tuesday at 6 pm.
The Lady Rams shot only 27% (17-64) from the floor, while Brenau shot 31% (18-58). Mobile also went 0-of-13 from 3-point range, while the Golden Tigers hit 5-of-14 from downtown.
Deonica McCormick led Mobile with 25 points thanks to 11-of-12 shooting from the charity stripe, while Shontae Dillon added 10 points and 12 boards off the bench.
Tala Black led a pair of Golden Tigers in double figures with 16 points.
Thanks to that cold shooting, the Lady Rams led only 17 seconds in the game after Briana Edwards hit a free throw to start things off. But, Brenau scored the next 13 points and never looked back. Mobile went 0-for-5 from the field during that stretch. Brenau took a 31-24 lead into the break.
The closest Mobile would get in the final half was 50-53 at the 3:46 mark on a putback from Molly Speed. Brenau answered with three free throws over the next minute to stay in front.
