UMobile Women Fall By Five At Xavier

NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 53-58 at non-conference foe Xavier University Tuesday evening.

Mobile (3-5) visits Southern Wesleyan Friday at 5:30 pm for a Southern States Athletic Conference contest.

Shontae Dillon led Mobile with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Briana Edwards added 13 points and six boards.

Xavier dominated on the glass, finishing with a 41-21 edge in rebounds and a 22-4 edge in offensive boards. That helped negate Mobile's 49% to 37% edge in shooting percentage from the floor.

The Lady Rams jumped ahead 8-2 to start the game thanks to four points from Deonica McCormick, but Xavier scored the next seven points to take a 9-8 lead at the 15:23 mark. The teams traded buckets over the next two minutes until they were tied at 13-13, and then Xavier took the lead for good at 13:04 on a free throw from Emoni Harvey. Xavier went into the half with a 33-30 lead.

In the first 7:15 of the final half, Xavier went on a 13-4 run to build a 12-point lead. Mobile had six turnovers in the run. The Lady Rams cut the lead to four three times, but each time Xavier answered with a bucket to prevent Mobile from making it a one possession game. Trailing 58-48 with 3:01 to play, Mobile went on a 5-0 run over the next 1:33, but ran out of time, missing their final two shots.
