UM Baseball Beats William Carey 7-4

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team defeated William Carey University 7-4 Friday afternoon in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play.

Mobile (18-24, 11-15) and William Carey (20-21, 16-10) will finish the three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 pm.
 
Chris Peacock threw 132 pitches to grab the complete-game victory for the Rams. The righty scattered 9 hits, allowed 4 earned runs and struck out 7 batters. He gave up 3 in the 3rd and 1 in the 4th and then shut the Crusaders down in the final five innings, allowing only one runner in those final five frames.
 
Cody Sanderson finished 3-4 with 3 RBI, 2 doubles and 1 homer for the Rams, while Travis Williamson went 1-2 with 3 runs and Brad Sheffield added a 2-4 effort.
 
Mobile capitalized on a pair of Crusader errors to put up three runs in the 1st to take a 3-0 lead. William Carey produced three runs on four hits in the top of the 3rd to tie it up at 3-3 as Garrett Braley and Jason Terrell produced RBI-doubles.
 
The Rams answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 3rd to go back ahead 5-3 as Sanderson ripped a RBI-double and Williamson scored on a wild pitch.
 
In the 4th, the Crusaders got a 2-out RBI-single from Terrell to bring it to 5-4 with the bases loaded. Josh Dannelley then ripped a shot down the 3rd-base line, that Brady King made a diving stop on, and then dove to beat the runner to 3rd for the force to end the inning.
 
With 2 outs in the 5th, Williamson singled and Sanderson hit a 2-run bomb to cap the scoring.
