MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team took a pair of 7-inning games from visiting Talladega College Saturday, winning game one 9-4 and the finale 3-2.
The Rams won the opening game of the doubleheader 9-4 thanks to 13 hits and a strong pitching performance from Chris Peacock. Peacock grabbed the win by allowing only 1 earned run on 5 hits in a complete-game effort. The righty fanned 6 and walked 3.
Offensively, the Rams took advantage of 8 walks and 3 errors to compliment their 13 hits. Cameron White finished 3-5 with 3 runs and 2 RBI, Justin Beck finished 3-4 with 2 RBI, Brad Sheffield finished 2-3 with 2 runs and Hunter Norris added a pair of hits for Mobile, with Cody Barber tacking on 2 more RBI.
After the teams traded solo runs in the 1st inning, the Rams took command with three runs in the 3rd and two more in the 4th. In the 3rd, the Rams used four walks and an error to plate the three runs, with 6 of the first 7 batters reaching safely, including four by walk. White reached on an error to start the 4th and later scored on Barber's sac fly, while Beck capped the inning with a RBI-single.
Mobile tacked on three insurance runs in the 6th thanks to some small ball, as Cody Sanderson walked and Travis Williamson reached on a bunt hit to start the inning. Norris stroked a RBI-hit and White finished the scoring with a 2-run single.
In the finale, Jarrin Brister pitched the Rams to a victory with 7 innings of 2-run, 5-hit ball. He fanned 3 and walked one. His best work came in the top of the 6th with the Rams nursing a 3-2 lead. Talladega put runners on the corners with nobody out, but Brister got a pair of strikeouts and Talladega was thrown out trying to swipe home on a double steal.
Brad Sheffield went 2-3 at the plate to lead Mobile. The Rams opened the scoring with a pair in the bottom of the 1st. Sheffield provided an RBI-double and then came around to score himself after an error and wild pitch.
Nicolas Figueroa tied it up for Talladega with a 2-run homer in the 3rd, but the Rams tallied the game-winning run in the 5th. Cameron White reached via error, moved to 3rd on an infield single and double-play ball, and then scored with two outs on Cody Sanderson's RBI-infield base hit.
Mobile (6-6) hosts Faulkner University Tuesday, Feb. 23 at noon for a doubleheader.
