MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with visiting Auburn University-Montgomery Tuesday, dropping the first game 3-2 in 7 innings and taking the finale 11-0 in 6 innings.
Chris Peacock picked up the win in the finale with 2 innings of 2-hit shutout ball. Cameron White and Alan Butts both worked 2 scoreless innings of relief to help finish up the game. Josh Smith took the loss for the Senators after allowing 7 runs (2 earned) in 1.1 innings of work.
Travis Williamson finished 4-for-4 with 4 RBI, 2 doubles and 1 home run, while Cody Barber and Derek Bourgeois each added a pair of hits for the Rams, who broke the game open with a 7-run 2nd inning.
In that 2nd inning, the Rams sent 11 hitters to the plate, tallied 5 hits and were helped by a pair of AUM errors. Williamson had a pair of doubles in the frame with 1 RBI and 1 run scored, and a pair of Rams scored on an errant throw from AUM's Justin Williams. Cody Barber, Hunter Norris and Cody Sanderson added RBIs in the frame.
The Senators took the opening game 3-2 in 7 innings, as four pitchers combined to limit the Rams to two runs on five hits while fanning four. Robby Davis picked up the win for AUM with 3 innings of 1-hit, 1-run ball. Jared Fonseca picked up the save with 1.1 innings of shutout ball.
Jarrin Brister took the loss for Mobile after allowing one run in 2 innings of relief.
Jake Halverson led the Rams with 2 RBI, while Cameron White finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a pair of walks. Jacob Salter, Bruce Alter and Michael Dugan each collected two hits for the Senators.
AUM struck first with a tally in the 2nd inning on a RBI-infield single from Charles Lester, but AUM left six runners on over the first 3 frames to keep Mobile in the game. The Rams tied it up with some small ball in the 3rd, using a hit-batsman, sac bunt, wild pitch and sac fly to score.
Will Sellers put AUM back in the lead with a pinch hit home run in the 4th, and then a leadoff error by the Rams in the 6th gave AUM a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the 6th, Mobile put a pair on with only 1 out and loaded the bases with 2 outs, but only got one run, when Halverson was hit by a pitch to force home Brady King.
