Mobile Men Blast Badgers

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team used a dominant opening half to blast the Spring Hill College Badgers 75-58 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play Saturday.
 
The Rams built a 46-21 lead at half time by out shooting Spring Hill 50% to 33%, and holding the nation's leading 3-point shooter Marcus Coleman scoreless. The Badgers shot only 2-of-10 from downtown in the half and 5-of-16 from the charity stripe. Mobile hit 2-of-5 from 3-point range and 12-of-14 from the free throw line.
 
In the half, Ji Kimbrough tallied 17 of his game-high 24 points on 5-of-8 shooting. The Rams also won the rebounding battle 26-11.
 
The Rams opened the game with a 7-0 run, with five points coming from Kimbrough. The Badgers finally got on the board with a Nick Brown bucket 2:38 into the contest, but the Rams answered with a 10-3 run to take a 17-5 lead with 12:39 remaining. Mobile continued to score, and the Badgers continued to struggle to put the ball in the basket, as the Rams built a 31-8 lead before the Badgers finally cracked double digits 13:16 into the contest. UM led by as much as 26 in the half.
 
Spring Hill got 11 points from Coleman in the second half and improved a bit, but Mobile cruised, never leading by less than 13.
 
Mobile (11-7, 4-5) hosts Tougaloo College Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 pm. Spring Hill falls to 10-8 overall and 4-5 in GCAC action.
