MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team picked up a 59-53 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference victory over Xavier University at Pharr Gym Thursday evening.
Robert Golston led Mobile with 13 points and 8 rebounds, Ji Kimbrough added 12 points and Donte Walker finished with 10 points for Mobile. Cordell Hadnot and Michael Harvey each tallied 14 points to lead Xavier.
Mobile (9-5, 2-3) hosts NAIA No. 5 LSU-Shreveport Saturday, Jan. 23 at 7 pm.
The Rams won the game despite being outshot 49% to 40% from the field, thanks to a 5-for-14 effort from three-point range versus an 0-for-8 effort from Xavier. In the final half, Mobile hit 14-of-16 from the free throw line, while the Gold Rush hit only 8-of-16 from the charity stripe.
Mobile led by one at the break and after Xavier took a 33-32 lead with 18:54 left in the final half, the Rams took control of the game. Mobile went on a 13-3 run to take a 45-36 lead with 10:07 left.
The Gold Rush pulled within 53-51 with 2:37 left, but the Rams grabbed the next six points to hold on, going 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final two minutes.
