Rams Out-Score Pilots; Win 5-4

SHREVEPORT, La-- The University of Mobile men's soccer team used five first-half goals to hold off LSU-Shreveport 5-4 Sunday in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opener.

Mobile (4-6, 1-0) visits Northwood University in Dallas, TX Monday, Oct. 12 at 1 pm. The Rams had scored only six goals all season entering Sunday's contest and came just one goal shy of that total in the game's first 45 minutes.

Cedric Carrie and Henrique Bertoli led the Mobile offense, which out-shot the Pilots 21-11. Carrie tallied 2 goals and 1 assist, while Bertoli added a pair of goals. Onesimus Ikungo added Mobile's other tally. The Rams scored three goals in the first 12 minutes of action, with Carrie opening the scoring just 6:51 into play. Carrie then assisted Ikungo's goal just 3 minutes later, and Bertoli put Mobile up 3-0 on a goal assisted by Ruben Diaz in the 12th minute.

LSUS' defense appeared to regain its footing after the early barrage of goals, but the Rams struck again with Bertoli scoring in the 42nd minute and Carrie tallying the game-winner just 54 seconds before halftime.

LSU-Shreveport tallied four goals in the final 45 minutes with Marcos Carrillo tallying a pair, but the Rams held on. Jason Williams allowed 4 goals and picked up 3 saves in the win for Mobile.
