Mobile Falls At GCAC Foe William Carey

HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 55-63 at William Carey University in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play Monday evening.
 
The Lady Rams (11-6, 3-4) host Southern University at New Orleans Thursday at 5:30 pm. William Carey improves to 9-8 overall and 5-2 in GCAC action.
Morgan Melancon led Mobile with 11 points, Adrienne Mackay added a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Davina Jefferson finished with 10 points. Consuela Tucker led William Carey with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor, while Britta Stephens added 13 points.
 
Mobile shot only 33% (19-of-57) from the floor, compared to 52% (27-52) for the Lady Saders. The Lady Rams never led in the game and turned the ball over 30 times to negate a sizeable advantage in free throws and rebounds.
 
Mobile outrebounded William Carey 41-27 and went 12-of-14 from the charity stripe, compared to 4-of-14 from the Lady Saders.
 
William Carey ran off 10 straight points to open the game before the Lady Rams finally got on the board 4:15 in, on a jumper from Alice Honnery. Mobile pulled within 1 with 9:43 remaining on back-to-back buckets from Trenell Spears, but the Lady Saders answered by taking the next seven points to go ahead 21-13. They took an eight-point lead into the break.
 
The Lady Rams pulled within 38-34 on a 3-ball from Alyssa Lane 4:59 into the second half, but the Lady Saders again answered the bell with a 12-0 run to take a game-high 16-point lead and take control for good.
