Lady Pilots Top Lady Rams In Conference Play

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 44-57 to LSU-Shreveport in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action at Pharr Gym Saturday evening.
 
The Lady Pilots of LSUS came in with the nation's top defense, holding opponents to 50.1 points per contest. They held the Lady Rams to 26% shooting from the floor and 3-of-16 from three-point range while forcing 19 turnovers and blocking 5 shots.
 
Alice Honnery led the Lady Rams with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks, while Alyssa Lane added 11 points off the bench for Mobile.
 
Sharday Cotton was the Lady Pilots' lone double-digit performer with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Valerie Huizar added 9 points and a game-high 6 assists. LSUS shot 34% from the floor and out-rebounded Mobile 53-34.
 
The opening half saw the Lady Pilots take a 28-24 lead into the break after taking control early with a 17-6 lead as Mobile went 0-for-11 from the floor in a span of 6:45.
 
In the 2nd half, Mobile tied the game 32-32 on a 3-pointer from Lane at the 15:15 mark, but the Lady Rams never took a lead. Leading 38-36 with 12:46 to play, the Lady Pilots 15-4 run to take a 13-point lead with 3:12 left.
 
Mobile (11-5, 3-3) travels to William Carey University Monday, Jan. 25 at 5:30 pm.
