MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 50-69 to Xavier University in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action at Pharr Gym Thursday evening.
Adrienne Mackay finished with 16 points to lead Mobile, while Davina Jefferson added 15 points and 4 steals for the Lady Rams. Alice Honnery finished with 7 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks.
Brittany Powell led Xavier with 29 points on an impressive 12-of-15 shooting, while SiMon Franklin added 10 points for the Gold Nuggets.
A porous opening half doomed the Lady Rams, as Mobile shot only 36% from the floor compared to 50% for Xavier. The Lady Rams also had 14 turnovers in the opening period, including seven in the first 6:56 of action that saw the visitors build a 10-0 lead. Mackay finally got Mobile on the board at the 6:56 mark, but the Lady Rams could not rally, falling behind by as much as 16 twice, before heading into the break down 36-23.
In the second half, Mobile was only within single digits for 1:11, and that was 44-35.
