Johnson Leads Mobile Past UWF

PENSACOLA, Fla-- Gerica Johnson's career-high 37 points led the University of Mobile women's basketball team to an 81-76 overtime victory over NCAA II University of West Florida Monday in non-conference action.
 
Johnson, a senior from Theodore, Ala., hit 13-of-34 from the floor, 2-of-4 from the three-point line and 9-of-9 from the charity stripe. She also grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out 7 assists for Mobile.
 
While Johnson was doing damage from the guard spot, forwards Adrienne Mackay and Alice Honerry controlled the paint. Mackay finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds, while Honerry put up 14 points and 14 rebounds.
 
Mobile (4-1) next travels to the Arkansas-Monticello Classic for a showdown with University of Arkansas-Monticello Friday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 pm.
 
The Lady Rams led for the first 11 minutes of the opening half, but the Lady Argos battled back for a five-point half-time lead. Mobile went ahead by as much as eight points in the second half on an offensive put-back by Mackay, but West Florida went on an 11-0 run to take a three-point lead with 1:36 remaining.
Things stayed that way until Johnson sank a three-pointer for the Lady Rams with 30 seconds left to send the game into overtime at 66-66.

In overtime, West Florida's Tiffany Williams hit a pair of three-pointers to tie it up at 71-71, and Mobile went on a 7-0 run with Johnson tallying four points in the run. Mobile led by as much as eight in the extra period.
