HATTIESBURG, Miss--- The University of Mobile women's basketball team took a break from the 2009-10 regular season to visit University of Southern Mississippi for an exhibition contest Thursday evening.
Conference USA's Golden Eagles defeated Mobile 86-48 in the contest behind a standout performance from preseason All-Conference USA selection Pauline Love. Love scored 26 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, including an impressive 11 offensive boards. Robin Murphy chipped in 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
Alice Honnery continued her impressive play in the post for Mobile with 14 points and 5 blocks on the evening. Gerica Johnson finished with 15 points and 4 steals for Mobile, who shot only 29% in the second half and had 36 turnovers versus only 10 assists.
USM shot 47% from the floor and turned the ball over only 19 times and had 24 assists, led by 7 from Erin Gatling.
Mobile kept the margin under 20 in the opening 20 minutes, but Southern Miss began pulling away in the final half and led by as much as 40 points.
Mobile returns to action at NAIA No. 22 Auburn University-Montgomery Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 6 pm. The Lady Rams are 2-1 on the season.
