SHREVEPORT, La-- The University of Mobile women's soccer team used Missy Stovall's hat trick to open Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play with a 3-1 win at LSU-Shreveport Sunday.
Mobile (5-5-1, 1-0) will battle Northwood University in Dallas, TX in a non-conference game Monday, Oct. 12 at 3 pm.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie through the first 30 minutes of action, but then the scoreboard began to light up. Stovall scored a pair of goals to give Mobile a 2-0 lead, and then the Lady Pilots put one in the back of the net with about 10 seconds remaining to make it a 2-1 game heading into the half.
In the second half, the Lady Pilots got a penalty kick opportunity to tie things up, but Mobile goal keeper Anna Maddox stopped the shot to preserve the Mobile lead. Stovall then put the game away, scoring in the 80th minute.
Maddox, Louise Arseneault and Christy Lachappelle picked up assists in the game. Stovall now has a team-high 9 goals on the season, while Lachappelle leads the team with 6 assists.
