No. 16 LCSC Slips By No. 21 Mobile 5-4 At Nationals

MOBILE, Ala-- The 21st-ranked University of Mobile women's tennis team fell to 16th-ranked Lewis-Clark College 5-4 on day one of the 2010 NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship Tuesday.

The Lady Rams finish the season with a 17-6 record, while Lewis-Clark advances to face Fresno Pacific Wednesday at 9 am. This was Mobile's 6th-straight trip to nationals.

The Lady Warriors quickly grabbed an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles, and then No. 1 and 3 doubles went down to the wire. The No. 1 pairing of Rachel Hartley and Zelie Pfeiffer grabbed a 9-7 win for the Lady Rams after LCSC rallied from a 7-4 deficit to tie it up 7-7, but Lewis-Clark then grabbed a 9-7 win at No. 3 to take a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.

Singles play was split evenly, but that allowed the Lady Warriors to grab the win. Claudia Borges, Pfeiffer and Hartley grabbed wins at the top three spots for Mobile, while Lewis-Clark cruised in the final three singles spots, dropping only one game.

No. 6 – Barb Sneckner (LCSC) def. Jordin Wiggins (UM), 6-1, 6-0

Doubles:
No. 1 – Hartley / Pfeiffer (UM) def. Marsela / Schultz (LCSC), 9-7
No. 2 – Chong / Samantha Teigen (LCSC) def. Emily Jennings / Williams (UM), 8-0
No. 3 – Smedley / Chelsea Gay (LCSC) def. Borges / Machen (UM), 9-7
