NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 57-45 at Loyola University in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action Saturday.
Loyola out shot Mobile 40% to 37% from the field and forced 24 Mobile turnovers, while draining eight 3-pointers in the contest.
Davina Jefferson led Mobile with 14 points, while Morgan Crawford finished with 9 points and 3 assists. Keiva Council and Colette Morris both tallied 11 points to lead Loyola.
Jefferson scored with 4:58 left in the opening half to bring Mobile within 14-13 after Loyola had pulled ahead 14-6, but the Wolfpack finished the half on a 12-5 run to take a 26-18 lead into the break.
Mobile grabbed a 27-26 lead in the second half on a pair of free throws from Jefferson, but Trenese Smith answered with a 3-ball for the Wolfpack on the next trip down the court to go ahead 29-27. The Lady Rams' Crawford tied it up at 29-29, but the Wolfpack took the lead for good with 14:14 on a bucket from Morris. The Lady Rams were within 33-37 with 10:18 to play, but Mobile tallied only six points over the next 6:14 as Loyola held on.
Mobile (12-9, 4-7) hosts Dillard University Monday, Feb. 8 at 5:30 pm.
