UM Men's Cross Country Adds One

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's cross country team announced the signing of Guillermo (Emil) Verde Monday.

He is the son of Emil and Maggie Verde and a native of Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

Emil Verde is transferring in the Fall to the University of Mobile from the College of the Albemarle. His mother is happy to see her son following in her footsteps, as she ran for UM as a collegiate athlete. The talent has been passed along from one generation to the next like a baton.

During all four years of high school Emil earned Varsity Letters, was nominated MVP, and was named All Conference. The standout runner was recognized by the local newspaper as the Area Runner of the Year as a Junior and a Senior. He also received Athlete of the Year and Runner of the Year honors his Senior year. Emil's personal record for the 5k is 17:10.

"I am thrilled to have such an experienced leader of the pack," UM Head Coach Holly Person said. "He will be fighting for the top position among our five scoring runners. It will be invigorating to see the healthy competition within the team throughout training and on the race course."
