Pair Of Lady Rams Named Earn NAIA Honors

SIOUX CITY, Iowa-- Whitney Knight and Paula Stilkey were named 2009 Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball All-Americans Sunday, as announced by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

 

Knight was named 3rd-Team All-American, while Stilkey was an Honorable Mention selection. Knight is a three-time All-American (Honorable Mention in 2007 and 3rd-Team in 2008), while Stilkey is a two-time Honorable Mention All-American.
 
The Lady Rams finished the season with a 26-13 record, won the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship and advanced to the NAIA National Championship for the third straight season.
 
Knight, a senior outside hitter from Birmingham, Ala., led the Lady Rams with 464 kills and 346 digs, and added 45 blocks and 33 aces.
 
Stilkey, a senior middle blocker from Union, Ky., finished with 362 kills, 279 digs, 41 aces and a team-leading 96 blocks.
 
Knight Named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete
 
KANSAS CITY, Mo-- The University of Mobile's Whitney Knight was named a 2009 Daktronics-NAIA Volleyball Scholar-Athlete Friday, as announced by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
 
There were 304 NAIA student-athletes honored. Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.
 
The Lady Rams finished the 2009 season with a 26-13 record. Mobile won the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, hosted and defeated SCAD in a National Championship Opening Round Match, and went 1-2 in pool play at the 2009 NAIA Volleyball National Championship, defeating No. 11 Vanguard.
 
Knight finished the year with 464 kills, 346 digs, 45 blocks and 33 service aces. She led Mobile in kills and digs.
