Six Lady Rams Named All-GCAC

HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the 2009 GCAC All-Conference Volleyball Team, and the University of Mobile had six student-athletes honored.

 

Whitney Knight, Paula Stilkey, Blaire Fowler, Melody Tenney, Cassy Johnson and Sarah Scott were all named to the honorary squad.
 
Knight, a senior outside hitter from Montgomery, Ala., is a four-time All-GCAC selection and was named GCAC Player of the Year for the third straight year. She leads the Lady Rams with 422 kills and 314 digs. She is hitting .262, has 28 aces and 39 blocks.
 
Fowler, a freshman middle blocker from Aledo, Texas, was named GCAC Freshman of the Year. She is the fourth Lady Ram to earn such honors. Fowler leads Mobile with an impressive .297 hitting percentage, and has 298 kills and 71 blocks.
 
Tenney, a sophomore setter from Tallahassee, Fla., is the GCAC Setter of the Year. In her first year with the team, Tenney set the school's single-season assist record, currently at 1,264. She also has 48 service aces and 268 digs for the Lady Rams.
 
Stilkey, a senior middle blocker from Union, Ky., is also a four-time All-GCAC selection. She has 325 kills, 38 aces, 248 digs and a team-leading 90 blocks.
 
Johnson, a junior right side from Mission Viejo, Calif., leads the Lady Rams with 15 solo blocks and is second on the team with 78 total blocks.
 
Scott, a sophomore outside hitter from Mobile, Ala., is in her first year with Mobile. She has 205 kills, 72 aces and 251 digs.
 
Head Coach Jon Campbell was named GCAC Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive year. Campbell started the University of Mobile volleyball program in 2005. He is 132-43 at Mobile, and this is the third straight year Mobile has made the NAIA National Tournament.
