MOBILE, Ala-- The 16th-ranked University of Mobile men's soccer game headed into Friday's contest with visiting Northwood University having outscored opponents 6-1 in three contests on the season. That changed Friday, as the Northwood Seahawks blanked the Rams 2-0.
Mobile (2-1-1) hosts the UM Classic Sept. 17-18. Mobile will face Southern Polytechnic State Friday and Embry-Riddle on Saturday.
The Rams finished with a 20-12 edge in shots, including a 12-4 edge in the opening 45 minutes, but Northwood goalkeeper Andy Robertson posted a 4-save shutout.
With the defense bending, but not breaking, Northwood got on the board in the 24th minute as Ali Adams went back post on a feed from Tom Stringer.
In the 28th minute, the Rams picked up a red card in a physical game that saw six cards handed out, and had to play the final 62 minutes one man down.
As the Rams failed to put a shot on frame in the final 45 minutes, the Seahawks capped the game with a goal from Marcus Johansson in the 62nd minute.
