ORANGE BEACH, Ala-- The 14th-ranked University of Mobile men's soccer team used a pair of second half goals to rally past 2008 NAIA National Champion Bethel University 2-1 Saturday evening in Orange Beach.
Mobile (6-1-1) hosts Shorter University Friday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 pm.
Bethel struck first on a goal from Armando Guell in the 6th minute, when Felix Obilo's long ball beat the Mobile defense, allowing Guell to get to it and punch it in, just ahead of the goalkeeper.
From there, the Mobile defense clamped down, as goalkeeper Jason Williams finished with 4 saves in the winning effort.
With Bethel playing a man down in the final 45 minutes, the Rams made their move. Deshorn Brown scored in the 61st minute when he received a cross from Sam Blackburn and went far post to tie it up 1-1.
After Brown missed a penalty kick to win it in the 19th minute, Eoin Dolan played the role of hero with a goal in the 81st minute, punching home a cross from Blackburn from point-blank range.
The Rams held only a 7-5 shot advantage in the opening frame, but upped that to 12-6 in the final 45 with the man advantage. Mobile also finished with a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
