No. 11 Rams Battle No. 9 Blazers To Double OT Tie

JACKSON, Miss-- The 11th-ranked University of Mobile men's soccer team battled 9th-ranked Belhaven University to a 1-1 double-overtime tie in Southern States Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening.

Mobile moves to 7-1-2, 0-0-1 on the season, while Belhaven sits at 11-1-1, 0-0-1. The Rams visit University of Texas-Brownsville Sunday, Oct. 10 at 5 pm. The tie snaps a five-game winning streak for Mobile, but the Rams still have a six-game unbeaten streak going.

The Rams dominated the pace of the game, finishing with 22 shots compared to 11 for the Blazers. Mobile put 9 shots on frame, while Belhaven put 4 on target.

Gautier Troch finished with 8 saves in 110 minutes of action for Belhaven, while Jason Williams finished with 3 saves for Mobile, including one with just over a minute left to keep it tied.

Belhaven struck first in the game with a goal late in the opening half, despite Mobile controlling much of the first 45 minutes. Mobile put four shots on frame in the opening 30 minutes along with numerous other shot attempts, while the Rams' defense kept Belhaven from getting a good look until the 40th minute.

The Blazers put their first shot on target at the 40:08 mark and then took a 1-0 lead at 40:53 when Jose Robles scored off an assist from Johnny Hayes, who entered the game just four minutes prior.

The Rams opened the second half just like the first, putting pressure on the Belhaven defense. This time, it paid off with Deshorn Brown notching his team-leading 6th goal of the season in the 50th minute off an assist from Marc Joseph.
