Rams Get Last-Second Win

NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team defeated Loyola University 80-79 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action Saturday.

Robert Golston finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Rams, Ji Kimbrough added 14 points and Donte Walker finished with 13 points for Mobile. Mobile (13-7, 6-5) hosts Dillard Monday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 pm.

Ryan Brock scored a game-high 21 points for Loyola, while Torry Beaulieu added 20 points for the Wolfpack.

Both teams shot 53% from the field, while Loyola finished 7-of-12 from 3-point range compared to 3-of-9 for Mobile. The Rams finished 23-of-39 from the charity stripe while Loyola finished 22-of-37. Mobile won the rebounding battle 42-23, including a 15-4 edge in offensive boards.

The Rams built a 36-30 lead at halftime and held that lead until Sean Bennett drained a 3-ball for the Wolfpack to take a 53-52 lead with 12:10 left in the game. Mobile answered back to take a 56-53 lead with 10:51 left on a bucket from Kimbrough, but the Wolfpack went on a 9-0 run over the next 3:20 to grab a 62-56 lead.

Loyola held the lead until there was 1:22 left, when Kimbrough gave Mobile the lead with an old fashioned 3-point play to go ahead 74-73. The teams traded leads down the stretch until Cameron Cates gave Loyola a 79-78 lead with 4 seconds remaining. Then, with just one tick on left on the clock, Walker got fouled and sank both free throws to give the Rams the 80-79 victory.
