GULFPORT, Miss-- The 14th-ranked University of Mobile women's soccer team knocked off 11th-ranked William Carey University 3-1 in the SSAC Semifinals Thursday evening.
Mobile (12-5-1) advances to the SSAC Championship game Saturday at 5 pm versus 2nd-ranked Lee University and automatically secures a bid to the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championships. The Opening Round will take place Nov. 20 at sites to be determined.
The shot count was pretty much even, with William Carey putting 5 of 10 shots on frame and Mobile putting 5 of 9 on target, but the Lady Rams made the most of their opportunities.
Kassie Ruff opened the scoring just 12 minutes into the game, when she put a feed from teammate Cheryl Edgar into the back of the net.
But, in the 13th minute, the Lady Crusaders answered right back and tied up the game on an unassisted tally from Malin Barrulf.
The score stayed that way until the final 45 minutes, when Christy Lachappelle went to work to give Mobile the victory.
The sophomore scored the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute and then added some cushion with another goal in the 70th minute.
