ORANGE BEACH, Ala-- The 9th-seeded University of Mobile men's soccer team defeated No. 8 seed Belhaven University 4-3 in the second round of the 2010 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championships Tuesday evening at the Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Ala.
Mobile (16-3-2) advances to the Round of 8 and will face Bethel University (Tenn.) Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.
The Rams out shot Belhaven 23-11 and finished with a 10-5 edge in shots on frame.
Deshorn Brown and Ruben Diaz tallied two goals apiece to send the Rams to the Round of 8 for the second time since they advanced and lost to Bethel (Tenn.) in 2008.
Brown opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Chris Dillon's long throw-in found him in the 18-yard box for an easy goal.
Belhaven answered right back with a pair of goals in the 19th and 25th minutes to take a 2-1 lead. Achille Campion tied it up from 30 yards out, and Guilherme Brandao got to a long feed from Luke Blincow just before goalkeeper Jason Williams to make it 2-1.
In the 32nd minute, Brown took a feed from Stephen Okai and unleashed a rocket off a Belhaven defender into the back of the net to send it into the half at 2-2.
It was the Ruben Diaz show in the second half, as the senior tallied goals in the 71st and 72nd minutes to knock off the Blazers. He scored off of a corner kick in the 71st minute, and then just a minute later, he took a pass from Okai and beat the keeper in the upper left corner for the game-winner.
Alex Rodriguez scored on a free kick from about 27 yards out in the 77th minute for Belhaven, but the Blazers could not get closer.
