Mobile Upsets 18th-Ranked William Carey

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team knocked off 18th-ranked William Carey University 73-58 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action at Pharr Gym Thursday.

 

Mobile (16-8, 9-6) has won 7-of-8 and next plays at Xavier University at 7:30 pm Monday, Feb. 22.
 
Kevin Calloway led Mobile with 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting off the bench, Ji Kimbrough added 14 points and 7 steals, Donte Walker chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds and Robert Golston finished with 10 points for the Rams. Marcus Spann led the Crusaders with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Mobile out shot William Carey 44% to 35% from the field and forced 27 turnovers. Both teams finished with 23 free throws on the evening.
 
William Carey scored the first four points of the game and the Rams never led until Walker hit a pair of free throws to take a 14-13 lead with 11:01 left. From there, Mobile went on a 15-3 run to take a 29-16, when Marcus Polnett sank a pair of free throws with 6:12 remaining. Mobile led by double figures the rest of the half.
 
In the second half, William Carey got the lead down to 8 with 17:21 left, but the Rams answered with a Calloway bucket 10 seconds later and led by double figures until Spann scored with 3:38 for WCU to make it 60-52 in favor of the Rams. Calloway again answered 29 seconds later and Mobile held a double digit lead until the end.
