Lady Rams Rally; Honnery Climbs Career Ranks

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team defeated visiting Tougaloo College 64-58 Tuesday evening after a 25-day layoff.

In the game, Alice Honnery finished with 12 points, 14 rebounds and 7 blocks to give her 189 career blocks in just a season and a half to become the Lady Rams' all-time career blocks leader. Edmarie Lumbsley held down the top spot after totaling 188 blocks from 2000-02.

Alyssa Lane added 14 points and 7 boards for Mobile and Adrienne Mackay chipped in 11 points.

Victoria Jones tallied 22 points and 10 boards for Tougaloo to pace all scorers, while Erica Grayson added 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lady Rams overcame 32 turnovers by blocking 11 shots and out shooting the Lady Bulldogs 44% to 24% for the game. The Mobile defense also limited Tougaloo to a 4-of-29 effort from 3-point range, while Mobile went 3-of-6 from deep.

Tougaloo led for much of the first 10:20 in the opening half, but could only surge ahead by as many as four points. After a Portia Craft 3-pointer tied it for Tougaloo at 20-20 with 5:55 left, Mobile scored the next nine points, as four different players tallied buckets in the surge. Mobile took a 29-23 lead into the break.

Mobile held the lead in the second half until a Victoria Jones bucket tied the game at 39-39 with 11:44 to play. Jones added the next five points to put the Lady Bulldogs up 44-39. Mobile answered right back with a 5-0 run to tie it up, and never trailed again.

With the game sitting at 46-46 with 8:35 left, the Lady Rams made the game-deciding run. Mobile outscored Tougaloo 13-3 over the next 4:52 to take control. Five different Lady Rams scored in the run, which was capped when Crosby Morrison fed Adrienne Mackay underneath the basket.

Mobile (8-3) will host NCAA-II University of West Florida Saturday, Jan. 8 at 5 pm.
