Lady Rams Rally Past West Florida

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team used the 3-pointer to defeat NCAA-II University of West Florida 68-65 Saturday evening at Pharr Gym.

Mobile (9-3) will begin SSAC West Division play Thursday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 pm when they host William Carey University. West Florida falls to 7-7 on the season.

Adrienne Mackay led Mobile with 17 points, Morgan Melancon added 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point range, Anna Maddox chipped in 12 points off the bench and Alice Honnery added 5 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 blocks.

Sher'Ryan Scott led West Florida with 19 points, while Jessica Young finished with 13 points and 10 boards.

Field goal percentage, rebounding or turnovers offered no advantages either way, but Mobile finished 7-of-23 from 3-point range, while West Florida only finished 2-of-12 from downtown. Mobile hit 4-of-10 in the final half, compared to a 1-of-9 effort from the Lady Argos.

The first half saw West Florida take a 7-5 lead with 16:24 on the clock and they held the lead until Mobile finally fought back to tie it up at 27-27 on a pair of free throws from Mackay 12 minutes later. Mobile then took a 35-31 lead into the break.

The teams traded leads through the first half of the final period, but at the 10:05 mark West Florida grabbed a 57-49 lead with 10:05 to play. From there, Mobile went on a 13-2 run to grab a 62-59 lead as Maddox produced an old-fashioned 3-point play and then Melancon gave Mobile the lead for good on a 3-ball to go ahead 61-59 with 6:56 left.

West Florida pulled with 62-61 with 5:11 left thanks to a Mobile turnover, but Mackay followed with a bucket and then Melancon sank another 3-pointer to put Mobile up by six, as the Lady Rams held on for the win.
