Three-Pointers Send Lady Rams Past Lady Senators

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team used the 3-ball to rally past visiting Auburn University-Montgomery 65-58 in SSAC action Thursday evening at Pharr Gym.

Mobile (11-4, 2-1) will visit Xavier University-Louisiana Monday, Jan. 24 at 5:30 pm, while Auburn-Montgomery falls to 9-10 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Point guard Morgan Melancon led the way for the Lady Rams with a career-high 25 points thanks to 6-of-10 shooting from 3-point range, while Alyssa Lane tallied 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from downtown. In the post, Adrienne Mackay added 9 points and 10 boards, while Alice Honnery finished with 6 blocks.

Rachel Cunningham led AUM with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Haley McIntyre added 11 points.

For the game, AUM shot 33% from the floor and hit 5-of-25 from 3-point range, while Mobile shot 37% overall and hit 10-of-23 from deep, including 6-of-12 in the final period of play.

The Lady Rams led 12-6 7:56 into the first half on a Kyndra Davis bucket, but the Lady Senators woke up from there and scored the next 15 points to go ahead 21-12 with 5:49 left in the half.They built that lead up to as much as 12 on two occasions and settled for a 31-24 lead at the break.

In the second half, Lane and Melancon came out firing from deep and made it a different game. In the first 5:21 of action, both players went 2-2 from downtown, with the 4th 3-ball giving Mobile a 38-36 lead. AUM went 1-4 from 3-point range in that same stretch.

The teams traded buckets over the next few minutes until Lane's 3-pointer with 10:22 on the clock put Mobile up for good, 46-45. Mobile went up 48-45 from there, and over the next two minutes AUM cut the lead to one on two different occasions, but both times Melancon answered, drilling a 3-ball once and converting a 3-point play the other time. Mobile went 5-for-6 from the free throw line in the last minute to close it out.
