Life Tops Mobile In NAIA Men's Basketball Action

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team fell 63-77 to visiting Life University in NAIA non-conference action at Pharr Gym Saturday evening.
Mobile (9-8) will visit Xavier University-Louisiana Monday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 pm in non-conference action before returning home to host rival Spring Hill College Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 pm.
Bentley Hylton led four Rams in double figures with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists, while Brock Dockery added 11 points. Donte Walker and Matthew Turner each chipped in 10 points to the Rams' cause.
PJ Meyers led the Running Eagles with 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while Dominique Rouse added 15 points and 12 boards.
The Rams had a chance to pick up a big advantage from the free throw line, making 32 trips to the charity stripe, compared to 14 for Life, but Mobile connected on only 59% of those attempts (19-of-32).
Life out shot Mobile 43% to 37% for the game and doubled-up Mobile from the 3-point line 8-4.
Two key runs in the opening half gave Life a 44-35 lead at the break. The first run came with the game tied up at 15-15 with 10:17 left, but Life answered with a 13-2 run over the next 3:15 thanks to three 3-balls, including back-to-back 3's from Rouse and MJ Wyatt to cap the run. Then, Mobile battled back within 34-35 with 2:25 left in the period, but the Running Eagles finished the half on a 9-1 run as PJ Meyers sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
In the final half, Life surged ahead to a 15-point lead just 4:33 into the half and controlled the game from there, as Mobile could get no closer than 9 points the rest of the way.
