Senators Fight Off Rams 54-52 In Conference Action

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team fell 54-52 at Auburn University-Montgomery in SSAC West action Saturday.

Mobile (13-11, 6-3) sits in a tie for 1st in the SSAC West and will host Xavier Thursday, Feb. 17 in a non-conference battle at 7:30 pm.

Brock Dockery led Mobile with 14 points and 9 rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting, while Matthew Turner added 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field.

AUM got 14 points from Stephen Jordan and 13 points from Jerry Stangline.

Mobile out-rebounded the Senators 40-26 and held a 46% to 38% advantage shooting from the field, but the Rams turned the ball over 17 times, while AUM finished with only 6 turnovers.

The Rams shot 56% in the opening half, but got off only 18 shots, while AUM took 26 shots and got to the free throw line 16 times to build a 30-23 lead at the break. Mobile led 23-18 with 6:02 to go in the half on a layup from Turner, but the Senators finished the half on a 12-0 run, as the Rams turned it over 5 times in the final 5:05.

AUM held a 38-31 lead five minutes into the final half, but the Rams battled back to tie it up 38-38 with a 7-0 run over the next 4:44. From there, the team's battled to seven lead changes, with Mobile seemingly taking control with an 8-0 run to take a 50-43 lead with 5:06 left thanks to 2 rebounds and a pair of buckets from Turner.

But, Mobile went scoreless over the next 2 minutes as AUM tied it up thanks to 4 points from Stephen Jordan. Mobile rebounded to take a 52-50 lead with 2:27 left on Kevin Calloway's putback, but Jordan tied it up at 2:14 and Alex Hergott won the game for the Senators with a bucket at the 1:19 mark to make it 54-52. Mobile missed their last four shots down the stretch.
