Rams Take Pair From Hornets

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team swept a pair of non-conference games from Concordia College-Selma Tuesday, winning the opener 11-1 in a run-rule, 5-inning victory and taking the finale 6-5 in 7 innings.
Jacob Knowles picked up the win in the opener with 4 innings of 2-hit, 1-run ball, while fanning 2 batters. Jeremy Williams finished 2-3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs, while Sam Mahoney finished 2-2 with 2 RBI and a home run. Ryne Phillips added a 3-run pinch-hit homer and Ben Negus scored 3 runs from the leadoff spot.
Mahoney started the scoring with a leadoff homer in the 2nd inning, and then the Rams took command by tallying 6 runs on 4 hits and 2 errors in the 4th. Brady King started the frame with a bunt single and the scoring was capped by Phillips' 3-run bomb.
In the bottom of the 5th, Cameron White and Williams went back-to-back with RBI-singles to end the game.
Mobile won the finale despite committing 6 errors and leaving 10 runners on base. Blake Hanson picked up the win with 1 inning of 2-run, 3-hit relief. John Ladnier worked 2 innings of 1-run ball with 4 strikeouts for the save.
Brady King finished 3-4 with 2 RBI out of the 2-hole, Mahoney went 2-3 and Phillips finished 2-4 with 1 RBI.
The Rams took a 2-0 lead in the 1st on RBI-hits from Josh Blaylock and Phillips, and held a 3-2 lead heading into the 5th, where the Hornets grabbed their first lead, 4-3, with a 2-spot. The Mobile bats answered right back with 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th on only 2 hits. A wild pitch forced home Phillips to tie the game and then King followed with a 2-run double.
Mobile (9-5) visits Thomas University this weekend for a 3-game series beginning with a single game Friday at 3 pm.
