MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's tennis team swept singles play to defeat SSAC West rival Spring Hill College 7-2 at the Mobile Tennis Center Wednesday.
Mobile (2-0, 1-0) next plays March 11 at Loyola University at 4 pm.
Spring Hill opened the match by taking a 2-1 lead after doubles action thanks to closely contested wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots. Jesus Urmeneta/Enzo Correa won for Mobile at the No. 1 doubles spot, while Guilherme Lorencon/Lucas Martins lost 6-8 at No. 2 and Billy Musgrove/Clint Key fell at No. 3.
Singles play was a different story, as the Rams took all six matches, including 3-set victories at the No. 1, 5 and 6 slots. Clint Key's 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles clinched the match for the Rams.
Lorencon won 6-1, 0-6, 6-3; Correa won 3-6, 6-2, 6-1; Martins won 6-1, 6-4; Urmeneta won 6-3, 6-4 and Musgrove won 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
