Lady Rams Fall At Faulkner In Conference Play

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 71-78 at Faulkner University in SSAC West action Thursday evening.
Mobile (15-10, 5-6) hosts Loyola University Saturday at 4 pm. The Lady Rams are currently in a 4-way tie for 3rd and the top five teams from each division advance to the SSAC Tournament in Rome, GA Mar. 3-5.
Adrienne Mackay led Mobile with 20 points, 13 rebounds and 5 steals, Alice Honnery added 17 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks and Alyssa Lane finished with 16 points.
Brittney Carter led Faulkner with 25 points on 12-of-23 shooting and added 18 rebounds. Katie Pavlik added 16 points.
Mobile hit 40% from the field, 35% from 3-point range and 62% (8-13) from the free throw line. Faulkner shot 43% overall, 25% from 3-point range and 50% (12-24) from the charity stripe.
The Lady Rams struck first on a 3-ball from Lane to take a 3-0 lead, but Faulkner scored the next nine points and Mobile never lead again in the half. Mobile tied it up at 18-18, but Faulkner answered with a 7-0 spurt, and after a 29-29 tie, the Lady Eagles again answered, this time with a 9-0 run, before taking a 43-38 lead into the break.
In the final period, Lane and Mackay combined for 10 points in the first 4:42 to give Mobile a 50-46 lead. That is when Faulkner turned to their go-to player in post player Brittney Carter. Carter scored four straight buckets from the 15:43 mark to the 13:47 mark and pushed the Lady Eagles to a 4-point lead that they would not relinquish. Honnery answered back for Mobile with five-straight points to pull within 58-55 with 12:15 left, but Faulkner again went on a run, this time a 14-4 surge over the next 4:35 as five different players contributed points. Mobile got no closer than 7 from there.
