ROME, Ga-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team will open its postseason journey Thursday, Mar. 3 at 2 pm against Southern Poly State University.
Mobile (15-13, 8-4) is the #2 seed in the West and Co-Divisional Champions, while Southern Poly (21-8, 7-5) is the 3rd seed in the East. The winner will advance to play the winner of Brewton Parker/Loyola v. Lee University. Games will be played at the Forum.
The Rams enter the game with a 3-4 record in their last 7 contests and are 3-9 in games on the road this year. Mobile is 4-4 when giving up 70+ points in a game and 6-7 in games decided by single digits.
Donte Walker averages 15.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, Ji Kimbrough averages 14 points per contest and Brock Dockery puts up 9 points and 6.5 boards per game. As a team, Mobile shoots 41% from the field, 30% from 3-point range and 62% from the charity stripe.
The Southern Poly Hornets enter with 7 wins in their last 10 contests and a 3-1 record in their last 4. The Hornets get offensive production from several spots, led by Xavier Dawson's 15.8 points per game and 67 steals.
Brent Jennings averages 14.6 points and 8.3 boards, Darrien Beachem averages 11.1 points and 5.7 rebounds and Nick McDaniel makes the offense go with 111 assists on the season. SPSU shoots 45% overall, 36% from 3-point range and 70% from the free throw line.
