Lady Ram Softball Takes Two From Falcons

MOBILE, Ala-- The 25th-ranked University of Mobile softball team swept a doubleheader from visiting Notre Dame College by scores of 7-0 and 6-5 Thursday.

Mobile (11-3) will host Saint Mary of the Woods College Friday at 4 pm.

Victoria Buie picked up the victory in the opener by throwing 5 innings of 3-hit, shutout ball. She struck out two.

Mayles Rodriguez finished 2-4 with 1 RBI, Milagros Lozada finished 1-2 with a home run, Kirstyn Joiner and Jessica Swanson added two hits apiece, and Hannah Beth Baker finished 1-3 with a 2-run double.

The game was scoreless through 3.5 innings until the Lady Rams put up 5 runs on 7 hits in the bottom of the 4th. Lozada started the inning with a solo homer and Ally Scott, Baker and Rodriguez added run-scoring hits.

Mobile capped their scoring in the 6th with a RBI-double from Jessica Rogers and a RBI-single from Joiner.

In game two, Kamaron Strickland worked 6.1 innings of 4-hit, 2-run ball to pick up the victory. She struck out 4.

Holli McLeod finished 1-3 with 2 RBI, while Nicole Walker and Baker each went 1-2 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

The pitchers were dominating the game for the first 4.5 innings until Mobile opened up the scoring with a 6-run 5th, with all runs coming after 2 outs. Nicole Walker started the scoring with a run-scoring hit up the middle, while McLeod and Rogers capped the inning with back-to-back RBI-doubles.

Notre Dame started to chip away with a 2-run 6th, and then plated 3 in the 7th and put the tying run on 2nd, but Strickland, fanned the final batter of the game to get out of the jam.
