MOBILE, Ala-- The 25th-ranked University of Mobile softball team used a near-perfect pitching performance from Victoria Buie to take down Reinhardt University 2-0 on the final day of the University of Mobile Classic Sunday. (Photo by Marc Dupont)
Buie (8-1) allowed only 1 baserunner in a complete game effort, which saw her fan 8 and walk none. The only blemish on her line came in the form of a seeing-eye single from Lindsey Booker to lead off the 7th. The ball skipped under Buie's glove and just out of the reach of a diving Jessica Rogers at second.
That was one of only three balls to reach the outfield, with the others coming on a lineout to left and a popout to shallow center, which saw Mayles Rodriguez make a diving, over-the-shoulder catch from the shortstop position. For the first 4.1 innings, Buie did not allow a ball into the outfield. After the perfecto was broken up, Buie bounced right back and fanned two and induced a pop out behind home to clinch the win.
The Mobile offense provided Buie with all of the offense she needed with a 2-run 2nd inning. The frame started with a solo homer from Milagros Lozada and was capped when Jessica Swanson scored on a Reinhardt error.
Erica Bracey finished 2-2 at the plate, while Lozada finished 1-3 with the solo home run, her 4th of the year.
Mobile (13-3) will host 7th-ranked Lee University for a 4 pm doubleheader Tuesday, Mar. 8th.
