Rams Pick Up Non-Conference Doubleheader Sweep

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team picked up a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Lyon College Tuesday, winning the opener 6-3 in 7, and taking the finale 4-3 in 8 innings.

Mobile (16-6, 2-1) visits Lee University for a 3-game series this weekend, beginning with a 4 pm game on Friday.

In the opener, Chris Peacock picked up the victory by allowing only 1 earned run on 6 hits in 6 innings of work. The righty fanned 5 and walked 2.

Ben Negus led the way at the plate with a 3-4 effort from the leadoff spot. Cody Barber finished 1-2 with 1 RBI and 1 run.

The teams traded single runs for the first 1.5 innings until the Rams went ahead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Derek Bourgeois swiped 3rd and scored on a wild throw and Negus capped the inning with a 2-out, RBI-single.

Mobile put the game away with a 3-spot in the 5th, as the Rams capitalized on a pair of Lyon errors. Barber singled home won and later scored on a wild pitch.

Game two saw John Ladnier pick up the win in relief after allowing 1 run on 2 hits in 3 innings, while fanning 4.

Justin Beck finished 2-4, Jeremy Williams went 2-3 at the plate and Derek Bourgeois finished 2-4 with 2 RBI.

The Rams trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the 5th when they tied it up on a bases-loaded wlak from Barber. One inning later, Bourgeois smacked a solo home run to lead off the frame and make it 3-2 Mobile.

After Lyon forced extras with a RBI-groundout in the 7th, the Rams answered right back with the winning tally in the 8th. Negus started the inning with a pinch hit single and after a Ryan Waltman sac bunt, he scored on Bourgeois' walkoff RBI-single to right-center.
