Baseball Rallies For 11-9 Win Over Visiting Eagles

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team rallied and then hung on to beat Oklahoma Wesleyan 11-9 in non-conference action Tuesday.

Mobile (18-8, 2-1) visits Belhaven University for a 3-game SSAC West series beginning Friday at 6 pm.

Cameron White got the win for Mobile with 1 scoreless inning of relief, while Zack Michel took the loss for OKW after giving up 6 runs on 6 hits in 1.2 innings of relief work.

Justin Beck went 1-3 with 3 runs scored, Jeremy Williams finished 3-4 with 2 runs scored, Sam Manhoney drove in 3, Cody Barber and Ryne Phillips each collected 2 hits and 2 RBI and Derek Bourgeois finished 1-3 with 2 RBI.

For Oklahoma Wesleyan, Giancarlo Sironi finished 2-4 with 3 RBI and Brett Holte finished 2-2 with 2 RBI.

The Rams built a 4-2 lead through 6 innings thanks to a Mahoney RBI-groundout in the 5th and an Eagles' miscue in the 6th. But, things got wild from there, with the teams combining to score 14 runs over the final 3 innings.

Mobile led 6-3 when the Eagles came to bat in the 8th and Oklahoma Wesleyan promptly took its first lead of the game with a 4-spot. Holte and Sironi produced 2-run hits for the Eagles to go ahead 7-6.

The Mobile bats answered right back in the bottom of the 8th with 5 2-out runs on 5 hits and 1 error. Justin Beck got the rally started with a 2-out RBI-single to plate Derek Bourgeois and make it 7-7, and then Mahoney ripped a 2-run single past the diving first baseman and Ryne Phillips capped the scoring with a 2-run double into the right field corner.

The Eagles made it tough on John Ladnier in the 9th, plating a pair of runs and loading the bases with 2 outs, but Ladnier induced a grounder to 3rd to end the game.
