Rams Use Walk-Off Grand Slam To Beat William Carey

MOBILE, Ala-- Sam Mahoney's walk-off grand slam finished off an impressive power display for the University of Mobile baseball team and sent the team past William Carey 8-4 Friday in SSAC West action.

After the Crusaders tied the game at 4-4 with 2 runs on 3 hits in the top of the 9th, Mahoney and the Rams went to work in the bottom half of the inning. Following two walks and a single, Mahoney stepped up to the plate and cranked a 3-1 pitch over the right field fence for the game-winner. It was his 4th home run of the year.

John Ladnier picked up the win for Mobile with .1 innings of relief after Michael King started and limited the Crusaders to 3 earned runs on 7 hits in 8.2 innings, while fanning 8. Kody James took the loss in relief for William Carey.

Jeremy Williams finished 3-5 with 2 runs scored and a solo homer, Ryne Phillips went 2-2 at the plate and drew 3 walks, Mahoney finished 2-4 with the grand slam, Brady King went 2-4 and Cody Barber added a 2-run home run.

William Carey built a 2-0 lead through 5.5 innings as the Rams could not push across a run against Crusader starter Cory Williams. But, Mobile struck quickly in the 6th to tie it up, with Williams leading off with a home run and the Rams adding one more to tie it.

Barber's 2-run homer in the 8th set the stage for the 9th inning drama.

Mobile (22-10, 4-3) hosts the Crusaders (15-12, 2-2) for a doubleheader Saturday at 1 pm.
