MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team defeated rival Spring Hill College 5-2 in non-conference action Tuesday evening at Stan Galle Field.

Mobile (24-14) hosts Thomas University Wednesday, Apr. 6 at 1 pm for a non-conference doubleheader.

Corey Fountain got the win for Mobile after limiting the Badgers to 1 earned run on 7 hits in 6.2 innings of stellar mound work. The lefty fanned 5 and walked 3. John Ladnier picked up the save with 1 inning of 1-hit, shutout relief. Brooks Bobinger took the loss for the Badgers after giving up 0 earned runs (2 unearned) on 2 hits in 5 innings, while walking 5.

Jeremy Williams went 2-4 with 1 RBI at the dish, while Ryne Phillips added a 3-run home run for Mobile. Brian Traina finished 2-3 with 1 RBI for Spring Hill, while Rick LaForce went 1-3 with 1 run scored.

Mobile started the game by turning a leadoff Badger error into a run, as Justin Beck reached on an errant throw and scored two batters later on Williams's RBI-double off the left-center wall.

The pitchers put up 0's from there until the Rams tacked on another run in the 5th thanks to some small-ball. Cameron White drew a walk, swiped 2nd, advanced to 3rd on an error and scored on Brady King's sacrifice fly.

Phillips then provided the game's big blow with a 2-out, 3-run homer in the 7th. The Badgers then tried to answer in the bottom of the 7th, as they loaded the bases with only 1 out. Fountain then got a lineout and walked in a run before Michael King came in and induced a pop out to short. Spring Hill then stranded two runs in each of the 8th and 9th innings.
