
MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile dominated Shorter University Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader, taking the opener 3-1 in 7 innings and then run-ruling the Hawks 11-1 in 7 innings in the finale.
Mobile (27-16, 5-7) will visit University of West Florida Tuesday, Apr. 12 at 5 pm.
The opener saw Josh Blaylock handcuff the Hawks' offense to pick up the win. The junior limited Shorter to 1 run on 6 hits in 7 innings of work. He struck out 6.
Cameron While went 1-1 with 2 RBI for Mobile, while Cody Barber finished 1-3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 4th, when Mobile plated 2 runs on 3 hits. Barber singled home Ryne Phillips to start the inning, while White capped the scoring with a sac fly. Mobile then tacked on an insurance run in the 6th thanks to a RBI-double from White.
Blake Hanson dominated the Hawks in the final game, limiting them to 1 run on 5 hits in the complete-game effort. He struck out a pair and walked none, while the Rams' offense gave him 11 runs on 14 hits in support.
Brady King went 2-3 with 3 runs scored, Sam Mahoney and Barber each went 2-4 with 2 RBI and Jeremy Williams finished 2-4 at the plate with 3 runs driven in.
After getting only one baserunner on in the first two innings, the Rams batted around in the 3rd and plated 6 runs on 4 hits and 2 errors to break the game open. The rally started with leadoff walks to Blaylock and White. A pair of Shorter errors gave Mobile the first run of the frame, and then Phillips, Mahoney, Barber and Williams went back-to-back-to-back-to-back driving in runs. Barber had a RBI-double, while Williams bounced a 2-run single up the middle.
Mobile kept the bats going, scoring in each of the remaining innings, finally ending the game in the 7th when Mahoney as hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing home Derek Bourgeois.
