Ten Lady Rams Honored By SSAC

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- Ten University of Mobile student-athletes were honored by the Southern States Athletic Conference with the release of the 2011 SSAC Softball Awards Thursday.
Senior pitcher Victoria Buie and junior shortstop Mayles Rodriguez were named to the 2011 All-Conference Team. There are 19 members of the honorary squad.
Buie sports a 17-5 record on the season, with a 1.69 ERA and 174 strikeouts in 157 innings of work. She holds opponents to a .194 batting average and has 14 complete games. Rodriguez has started all 46 games, and sports a .389 batting average with 41 runs scored, 35 RBI, 13 doubles, 7 homers and a .511 on base percentage.
Earning the nod to the All-Division Team were Milagros Lozada and Jessica Rogers. Rogers was also named to the All-Freshmen Team.
Lozada, serving as catcher and DP, is Mobile's leading slugger, with 8 homers, 37 RBI and a .645 slugging percentage. She is hitting .355 with 9 doubles. Rogers, a freshman from Mobile, manned second base for the Lady Rams and hit .308 through the regular season, while scoring 24 runs and driving in 18.
Several Lady Rams were also honored for their performance off the field. Haley Baker, Erica Bracey, Buie, Korie Fontenot, Holli McLeod, Jessica Palmer and Kamaron Strickland were all named to the All-Academic Team.
Fontenot was also Mobile's Musco Lighting Champions of Character selection.
