No. 9 Vanguard Bounces Mobile Men At Nationals

MOBILE, Ala—The 9th-ranked Vanguard University Lions blanked the University of Mobile men’s tennis team 9-0 on day one of the 2011 NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship at the Mobile Tennis Center.
Vanguard (8-13) advances to round two Wednesday at 9 am, while Mobile sees its season end with a 6-8 mark. The tournament will conclude with the NAIA National Championship match May 21.
Mobile’s best bet for a victory came at No. 2 doubles, after the team of Enzo Correa and Jesus Urmeneta built a 7-6 lead, but Vanguard’s duo of Yahor Kryvaruchka and Samdro Bucher rallied for the 9-7 win.
In singles play, the Rams managed to take more than one game in a set only three times. This was Mobile’s 12th appearance at nationals and 4th-consecutive postseason berth.
